Flat Rate Boxes- If it fits, it ships
A friend of mine shared a story of how she spent $50 shipping her son in college a box of cookies to cheer him up. They were his favorite thick cookies and pretty heavy. Since they were fresh she wanted to be sure they would get there the next day so she went to Fed Ex and gulped when the fee was $50! Later she learned that the US Postal service have handy flat rate boxes that can save a lot of money if you have heavy package. Whatever you can fit in the medium sized boxes (2 choices) will ship anywhere in the country for $10.70, the larger box $14.50. It ships priority mail which is usually about 3 days depending on how far it is going. For my friend who was shipping within the same state, he would have got the box the next day. I recently used this to ship my daughter her snowboard bindings, 2 bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and some Valentine decorations I threw in to decorate her room. The box was dense and heavy, but as long as I could tape it shut, it was $10.70. You can pick up the boxes for free your local post office, or order them online and they ship right to your house for free.
